Irish Health Research Forum
In 2014, HRCI commissioned a report on the health research landscape in Ireland, which made a number of insightful recommendations, including an overarching recommendation to establish an Irish Health Research Forum – a mechanism to provide a single Irish voice for research to improve health. We enthusiastically took on the task of establishing the Forum, gathering together key organisations and stakeholders with an interest in health research and establishing a Steering Group to oversee activities.
Despite the fact that we are a very small organisation, our role and our independence makes us perfectly placed to bring together all with in interest in improving health research in Ireland. By us running this important national forum, we can help to ensure that the perspectives of health research charities and the voices of the people they represent are included in high-level, national conversations about research policy and practice.
With guidance and support from an excellent and supportive Steering Group, we organise two Forum meetings a year. These meetings bring together researchers, health research charities, patient representatives, funders, policy makers, industry representatives and many other stakeholders, to discuss keys issues and to shape future health research policy. After each event we make recommendations and bring them to the people with the power to make change. Our events and recommendations have contributed to positive changes in PPI, health research regulation, research within the health services and support for genomics in Ireland.Â
We encourage you to explore the Irish Health Research Forum section of our website for more information and for copies of reports produced by the Forum. If you wish to be kept informed about future events and outputs, please sign up to our mailing list here.Â
