HRCI response to Sinn Féin Priorities for Change in Health & Social Care, 2023

Response to Sinn Féin Priorities for Change in Health & Social Care, 2023

Our response to the consultation

We welcome the very considered priorities for change in health and social care that have been put together by Sinn Féin. This response below contains some suggestions to add to or modify those priorities.

Our over-arching emphasis is to increase the emphasis on research and innovation. Successive governments have failed to use their potential to improve healthcare and efficiencies in delivering it. The international evidence is very clear that enabling research in health and social care services leads to improvements in care, better recruitment and retention of staff, improved cost efficiencies etc. However, with the exception of some small pockets of support, neither the DoH nor the HSE appear to have an appetite to support and enable a culture of research and innovation.
