Hazel is the Research Coordinator for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin; Adjunct Lecturer in Paediatrics, Trinity College Dublin and Adjunct Research Follow, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, University College Dublin.
Hazel is Chair for the Irish Research Nurses Network and co-chair for the Research Committee of the International Association of Clinical Research Nurses. Hazel sits on the Temple Street University Hospital’s Nursing Research Committee; UK-Clinical Research Facilities Network Theme 3 and the European Network of Paediatric Research at the European Medicines Agency’s working group on Educational Training for Research Staff on Paediatric Clinical Trials.
Hazel is a published author in both medical and nursing journals, and for the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group, is a reviewer for medical and nursing journals and an invited speaker (including for the World Health Organization). Hazel also develops and teaches research courses.
Hazel is an investigator for international and national studies; supports home grown research and implements the findings into clinical practice. Hazel is the co-author on the ‘The Whitehouse Report: Review of research nursing and midwifery structures, strategies and sharing of learning across the UK and Ireland in 2017.’ This report was the result of a project undertaken by Claire Whitehouse through the Florence Nightingale Foundation and sponsored by the then Chief Nursing Officer for England, Jane Cummings.
