Research Ethics in Ireland: How do we strengthen and harmonise the system?

HRCI is delighted to welcome attendees to this in-person Irish Health Research Forum event.
There are many good people working hard to ensure that the highest standards in research ethics are maintained in Ireland. This is often done under difficult circumstances and many contribute in a purely voluntary capacity. Despite the huge efforts by everyone involved, the systems are fragmented and under-resourced. This results in delayed research which hampers the potential of health and social care research to make a real difference in people’s lives.
At this event we will discuss recent progress and future challenges. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their views on what is required to make the processes work better for everyone. We will hear from the National Office of Research Ethics Committees (NREC) as well as representatives from the HSE and others to be announced. A report and recommendations will be produced following the event.
Who should register?
Irish Health Research Forum events are discussion-based, in-person meetings, attended by many leaders and a diverse audience. The event is for anyone with an interest and role in improving and maintaining high standard research ethics in Ireland. Researchers (academic & clinical), health research charities, policy makers, funders, industry representatives, people in research and PPI support roles and many others will add value to the discussions.
This event is not intended for members of the public but we do offer a small number of free places for PPI contributors with a strong interest in the topic, on a first-come, first served basis.
Due to the discussion-based nature of the event, a hybrid option is not possible. However, we will record the talks and share them afterwards.
